Mount Hope City Council Passes Complete Streets Policy

Complete Streets Policy is aimed at improving safety and connectivity throughout the city. When the city plans improvements and expansion, this policy requires the city to consider all means of transportation, including bicycle and pedestrian accommodations. This is a national policy and we are pleased Mount Hope City Council views this as an important component to growing a healthy city.

As reported by WeAreWVProud.com powered by 59 News, “The City Council of Mount Hope passed a Complete Streets Policy, an initiative to become a more bicycle and pedestrian friendly community. Riding your bike down the streets of Mount Hope might have become a little easier. Members of the Mount Hope City Council passed the Complete Streets Policy during their meeting Tuesday night. The goal of the policy is to improve the safety throughout the city. The policy also requires the city to consider all means of transportation, like riding your bicycle and walking, when planning transportation improvements. It’s also a big part of Mount Hope’s efforts to provide better walking and bike riding trails for their residents.”

This policy is part of a larger picture to improve the health of southern West Virginia with access to safe places to be physically active powered by Active Southern West Virginia. The Active Southern West Virginia Pedestrian, Bike, Trail Coordinator, Andrew Davis, has been working in Mount Hope for the last year on three projects; Safe Streets, Phoenix Fitness & Equipment, and the Mount Hope Rail Trail. Three share the road signs were installed at the entrances of Mount Hope in 2016.
The Phoenix Fitness Trail and Equipment has been installed. Grand opening coming soon.
A bike repair station and three bike racks were installed in Mount Hope in 2016.
The Mount Hope Rail Trail will connect down town to the new National Park Garden Grounds stacked loop mountain bike trails.
