Trail Tuesday’s

June 16 @ 12:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until June 30, 2020

This is an important time to stay active to reduce stress, improve your immune system, and prevent chronic diseases. Moving your body 150 minutes a week, plus weight bearing activities is all it takes to live an active life as an adult. Children and youth need 60 minutes every day. #MoveYourWay

Every Tuesday in June we will be highlighting the trails of each of our counties; Nicholas, Fayette, Raleigh, and Summers. We hope to inspire you to explore your backyard trails and get first hand knowledge of the terrain and current conditions.

City, county, state, national park, and national wildlife areas will all be included. If you see a trail not mentioned in your county, please speak up! We want to compile an all inclusive list with the best maps available.

Feel free to post throughout the month with your trail questions and we will provide first hand knowledge from the local trail experts, Active SWV Community Captains and New River Gorge National River park rangers. Do you want to find trails with fishing access or trails close to you for stroller access? Trail walking is a great way to get outdoors this summer. This can be a way to find less popular outdoor places to visit on busy summer weekends.

Additional resources will be provided about:
– what to pack on a trail walk
– poison ivy and tic awareness
– wildlife and wildflowers to be on the lookout for
– being prepared for inclement weather
– how to keep your family safe while trail walking

All resources collected during this Trail Tuesdays event will be documented on this page;
