The volunteers, participants, partners acknowledge and understand that exposure to disease causing organisms, such as COVID-19, and personal contact with others, including but not limited to participants, non-participants, organizers, volunteers, onlookers and other individuals in the activity/program involves a certain degree of risk that could result in illness, permanent disability or death. Participants acknowledge that Active SWV has not screened or tested any of the participants for such diseases. After fully and carefully considering all the potential risks involved, participants hereby assume the same and agree to release and hold harmless Active SWV and its employees, officers, agents, volunteers, vendors and contractors from and against all claims and liability resulting from exposure to disease causing organisms such as COVID-19.

Get Active with Hidden History

Celebrate the wonders of Appalachian heritage, the sites and stories of southern West Virginia’s history! Enjoy exploring heritage sites, discover history highlights, and even challenge yourself to discover more heritage during this event.

This Virtual Event will be park the the NRG’s Hidden History Weekend.
We are asking participants to hike on their own to hidden historical locations and submit a photo to the event page. We will have a pannel of judges look at the all the photos and choose a winner. Winners will receive a Active SWV prize pack. Please use the #GetActiveHiddenHistory and #ActiveSWV when submitting your photos.

Check the event page for fun historical facts that will inspire you to hike to some of the location listed below.

Hawks Nest Rail Trail
Babcock State Park
Carnifax Ferry State Park
Pipestem State Park
Twin Falls State Park
New River Gorge National River

There will be a few in-person programs with a ranger. Safety measures will be practiced during these in-person activities due to COVID-19 with limits on participant numbers, face masks will be required, and safe social distancing will be practiced. Enjoy this discovery of history in plain sight!
