I hope you and your family are safe and well. We understand these are unique times and you are facing difficult decisions every day about your daily and weekly routines.
Active Southern West Virginia has decided to limit personal contact through the month of June to focus on continuing to bring you online resources. Bare with us, we are in the background preparing in-person programs to deliver the social supports greatly needed to recover from the medical, economic, and emotional toll this has taken on our communities.
Use the month of June to invite your immediate friends and family to be active with you. Extend the invitation to meet online, over the phone, and distanced in your neighborhoods. Having companionship in healthy behaviors will make you more successful in reaching your goals.
Wait, you need a goal? Explore below all the ways you can safely be active with your friends and family right now!
Stay safe and active,
Melanie Seiler

An event every week that begins at 8:30 am on Tuesday, repeating until February 29, 2020

Join Active SWV Community Captains and play Pickleball every Tuesday morning at 8:30am at the Memorial Building in Fayetteville. Pickleball is suitable for all age groups. Seniors can play against and with teenagers while women can readily compete with male players. The ball travels at about 1/3 the speed of a tennis ball and thus the court is about 1/3 the size of a tennis court. Finesse and accuracy are more important than power and speed, although reaction time can be precious in some aspects of play.
Ex-tennis and ex-racquetball players easily adjust to the Pickleball game as well as ping pong and badminton players. In fact, the game is played on the same size court as doubles badminton. Pickleball can be played indoors or out.
While the game is easy to learn and play, there can be large differences in skill. In the more advanced Pickleball, there are tournaments and player ratings much like tennis. There are even pro players and national level tournaments for the more advanced and competitive players.

Please wear athletic or loose fitting clothing, clean tennis shoes, and bring some water to stay hydrated!
