Active Southern West Virginia seeks to improve the health of all southern West Virginians by providing opportunities for active lifestyles. ActiveSWV develops community programs to create a culture of exercise and physical activity in southern West Virginia. These programs are led by volunteers called Community Captains. You can learn more about their roles, programs, and how you yourself could become a Community Captain by clicking here. For up to date programs and events you can join right now, always refer to the ActiveSWV Events Calendar here.

Follow these safety tips anytime you are active in the outdoors:

  • Know your location so you can describe where you are in case of an emergency.
  • Take a cell phone with you, but realize not all locations will have cell service.
  • It is best to always be active with someone else. If you do go out on your own, please notify someone of your location and notify them when you return.
  • Take water with you.
  • Know the rules for that area.
  • Take a small bag to bring out your trash or any trash you see along the way.
