Community Captain group hike with the National Park Service

Southern West Virginia is a beautiful region to live, work, and play. The outdoor venues offer some of America’s best recreation assets; walking and hiking areas, rail trails for biking, multiple gentle rivers for paddling, town parks with natural playgrounds, and climbing and bouldering areas. The Active SWV programs offer the introductory step into these activities with Community Captain volunteers leading. Programs also include hikes in parks, gentle yoga classes, beginner Tai Chi, pickle ball, dance aerobics, and the signature of all programs; Walking Groups.

Gauley Bridge Walking Group

Introducing and inviting the population in the New River Gorge region to Active SWV events is exciting and rewarding. There is no other organization like this in the state of West Virginia. The Active SWV network is encouraging and welcoming to new participants of any age and fitness level.

Education on the importance and benefits of active living is a top priority of Active SWV. Molly will increase our voice and message to reach more potential participants. It is important to educate families on the recommendation of physical activity per week.

For substantial health benefits, adults should do at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) a week of moderate-intensity, or 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, or an equivalence combination.Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Current Physical Activity Guidelines
