Fayetteville Mile Monday, Winter Edition

Fayetteville Mile Monday

Our Fayetteville Community Captain Hilary Nicolau hosted the weekly Mile Monday in Fayetteville May through October with great results in getting beginner walkers and runners introduced to weekly group activities. The goal is a one mile distance but some choose to do more.

Starting November 2nd Mile Monday is taking on a new look for November and December with the goal of keeping previous participants interested while attracting new walkers and runners.

The group will meet at 6:30pm in downtown Fayetteville and each week the meeting location will be announced on the Active Southern WV Facebook page. The first meeting will be at the Town Clock on Nov. 2nd.

But wait, there are bonuses for participating with this group to include socials and rewards. Some of the Mile Mondays will offer a social after the walk/run at one of the downtown restaurants. Those dates will be posted on the Active Southern WV Facebook page.

There is now an app with a punch card to earn points toward the reward. Here are the steps to make it work:

  1. Download the ‘Flok’ app from the app store on your phone and join the Active Southern West Virginia group.
  2. Show up to a Mile Monday event and scan the QR code Hilary or the group leader will provide.
  3. Join and scan 5 out of the 10 days Mile Monday is offered.
  4. Earn a cup of coffee from the Cathedral Cafe and an ActiveSWV shirt!

This incentive will run throughout November and December giving you 10 Mondays to join the group. Once you complete the 5 ‘punches’ on the app, you will receive a coupon for coffee and a shirt.

Do you not have a smart phone? That’s ok, we can still make it work. Be sure to sign the sign in sheet with Hilary or the group leader and we will get it counted toward your coupon.

Bring friends and let’s get more our of community in the habit of being active this winter. If you would like to lead your own event in your town, please reach out to our Program Assistant [email protected].
