May Community Captain of the Month: Hinton Community Captain Kim Berry

The Hinton Walking Group March 2016.

Active Southern West Virginia takes great pride in its Community Captains. We strongly believe that without them our mission would be impossible. They are dedicated to making their communities a happier, healthier, and an altogether brighter place to live. We are forever grateful for their service and passion for creating free opportunities for their community members to participate in. This month are highlighting Hinton Community Captain Kim Berry to both show appreciation for her service and to showcase a little bit of her story. We hope it will resonate with some of our readers and motivate them to start their journey toward a healthy and active lifestyle change.

Kim dedicated herself to a habit of being physically active three days a week for 2016 at the turn of the New Year so that she could perform optimally at work. She then decided to be a Community Captain with Active Southern West Virginia in an effort to extend that opportunity and motivate the people of Hinton to adopt the same lifestyle change.

She is the manager at Otter and Oak in Hinton and has her hand in a lot of things so when the hustle and bustle makes it challenging to get to the gym she does at home workouts or makes sure she gets extra steps in during her day at work.

Kim’s advice for anyone who may be interested in volunteering as a Community Captain is, “It can seem daunting to lead a group in your area or even to be more physically active at first, but I find that getting out there with a like-minded group of folks is just as addictive as popping open a can of Pringles, once you start you aren’t going to want to stop.”
