Meet Emily Callison
I’m originally form Milton, WV (Cabell county) and relocated to Shady Spring not long after finishing my Master’s in Exercise Physiology from Marshall. I enjoy spending my time outside throughout the year with gardening, trying different hiking trails as well as walking and jogging. I also enjoy spending time with my husband who does the majority of the hiking trails with me and spending time with family.
I’m active because it’s a great way to help with stress and to help strengthen your mind and body. I’ve been active my whole life from playing sports and it’s been something that I’ve continued due to all the benefits that it provides for you mentally and physically.
My motivation for volunteering with Active SWV was a great way to help get people involved in exercise and the importance of how beneficial it is for the longevity for you mentally, emotionally, and physically. Also, there are many people that want to start an activity but don’t want to do it alone. Having the ability to do group activities helps give people the confidence to try new things and also the ability to meet new people with the same goals and interests.
Motivation to stay active comes from how good my body feels after a workout and how it can help you make healthier choices throughout your day. That’s a priority because being active and making healthier choices can make every day not only easier but can benefit you mentally, emotionally, and physically in the long term.
I would recommend anyone to join an Active SWV activity because it’s a great way to get out and be active within your community while meeting new people. Plus, it’s free and there are lots of different activities for individuals of different skill levels and interests to do without judgement, just the benefit of having a healthier lifestyle.
Catch up with Emily’s Little Beaver Walking Group, which is changing time in December to 2:30 pm meeting time. Or find other free Active SWV programming near you by checkout out the website calendar.
