Active Places: New River Convention Center

Finding a supportive place to move your body can make all the difference. In Oak Hill, instructors Crysty and Tara are helping community members build strength, confidence, and connection through REFIT® — a high-energy, music-driven group fitness experience hosted at the New River Convention Center.

About This Event

REFIT® is designed to make movement enjoyable and accessible for everyone. This class blends music, rhythm, and positive energy into a full-body workout that focuses on progress over perfection. Whether you’re brand new to fitness, returning after time away, or simply looking for a positive and welcoming environment, this class meets you where you are.

Crysty and Tara create an atmosphere that emphasizes encouragement, community, and consistency. The goal isn’t complicated choreography — it’s helping participants feel successful, supported, and strong.

What to Expect

Participants can expect:

  • A music-based, full-body workout that improves cardiovascular health and muscular endurance

  • Modifications for all fitness and mobility levels

  • A welcoming community that encourages persistence over perfection

Regular physical activity has been shown to lower the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes, improve mental health, increase energy levels, and support better sleep. Group fitness environments also increase accountability and motivation, helping participants stick with healthy routines over time.

In communities across southern West Virginia, programs like REFIT® are helping remove barriers to exercise by offering free, supportive opportunities that prioritize inclusion and connection.

How to Prepare

  • Wear athletic shoes and comfortable clothing

  • Bring water and a towel

  • Show up ready to move, sweat, and have fun

No previous fitness experience is needed — just a willingness to participate.
