Jumping into Fall with Active SWV

Active Southern West Virginia provides free opportunities to get active by yourself or with family and friends. Interesting and fun activities are lead by trained volunteers to provide safe and educational experiences.

Check out all that is coming up this week and into West Virginia’s beautiful fall season!

September 21st and 26th: Tai Chi at Camp Brookside: Community Captain Joe Jett, Tai Chi Instructor, says “This is beginner Tai Chi or Tai Chi Qi Gong. Qi is pronounced Chi, too, but Ki works and is how the Japanese pronounce it. It has the health benefits of Tai Chi but easier to learn, without the foot work. The advanced Tai Chi is incredibly difficult to learn and takes months just to become proficient, years and even decades to master. If you can’t make this class, join the interest group here to be notified of future classes.

September 21st: Sunset Yoga at Camp Brookside: Enjoy a professionally led yoga practice on the banks of the New River.

September 22nd and 29th: Bring the Kids! Family-friendly Hiking: Join Community Captain Erin Clay and her family on this FREE hike designed specifically to be kid friendly. Erin will pick trails that are 1 to 2 miles long and have games and activities planned for the kids on each hike. This is a family friendly group, we want this to be fun for all!

September 24th: Photo-walk at Nuttellburg: Join Active SWV Community Captain Levi on this guided amateur photo walk and capture pictures of the historic site of Nuttallburg. Today it is considered one of the most intact examples a coal mining complex in West Virginia. This walk will not focus on the technical side of photography, it will instead be an opportunity to share varying artistic perspectives and ideas. Get creative and try something new! All you need to bring is a camera or phone that you feel comfortable using to take pictures and wear comfortable walking shoes.

This is the newest trail system in southern West Virginia highlighting the location of the Beckley Gristmill. Join this event page for all the details
