New River Gorge Virtual 10K FAQs

1.What is the New River Gorge Virtual 10K?

Due to circumstances around Covid-19, Active SWV made the decision to defer the Inaugural New River Gorge Rim to Rim 10K to 2021. In lieu of that event, we are hosting the New River Gorge VIRTUAL 10K with a walk and a run option. Funds raised will support free youth running programs in southern West Virginia. Participants will have 20 days to complete the 10K. You can run, jog, skip, walk, or any combination between June 1 – June 20. We will celebrate everyone who participates on June 20th – West Virginia day! Top finishers will be announced on June 20th, and participant gifts will be mailed by July 1st.

2. How do I sign up for the event?
  1. Start by going to the race page on RunSignup here.
  2. You will see both a 10K run and a 10K walk option. Select your preferred speed, and follow the prompts to complete your registration.

There is a $25.00 Race Fee + $3.75 Sign-up Fee. Registration ends June 20, 2020 at 11:59pm EDT

3. I opted to defer my New River Gorge Rim to Rim registration to 2021, and participate in the Virtual 10K this year. How do I claim my registration for the virtual event? 

Once you sign up, you should receive an email confirming your registration and prompting you complete your RunSignup account set-up. Your RunSignup account will enable you to so submit your race results when you have finished the 10K.If you have trouble claiming your registration, please try the following:

  1. Go to the race website here
  2. Click the ‘find a participant‘ tab on the top menu
  3. Find your name, and click the ‘is this you?’ next to your name
  4. Follow the prompts to ‘claim’ yourself, and an email will be sent to the address associated with your name with a link and instructions on how to complete the process

4. How do I report my time for the virtual event?

From the New River Gorge Virtual 10K site:

  1. You can report your time by going to either the ‘find a participant‘ tab, or the ‘results‘ tab in the top menu
  2. From the ‘find a participant’ tab: locate your name, click the ‘more details’ button, and then ‘submit virtual results’
  3. from the ‘results’ tab: click ‘submit virtual results’, search for yourself when prompted, and then click ‘submit virtual results’ next to your name when it comes up.

From your RunSignup profile:

  1. login to your account, and navigate to your profile from the head icon in the top right corner
  2. Click the ‘upcoming events’ tab to find the New River Gorge 10K
  3. Click ‘submit virtual results’ and do so when prompted

5. Do I have to walk/run my 10K in a certain place?

No, there is no set course, and you may complete your 10K wherever you would like! In accordance with CDC guidelines, Active SWV does not recommend getting together in groups to complete your 10K.

6. Where will I see the winners announced?

Go to the ‘results’ tab on the New River Gorge 10K results page to see the posted times. Participant gifts will be mailed by July 1st.
