Spring could not get here fast enough with the launch of Active Southern WV in 2015. With our mission of giving residents more opportunities to get physically active, we have found many eager partners to contribute their resources to our friends, neighbors, families and coworkers.
During the week of April 12-18 you will find many adventures to join throughout Raleigh, Fayette and Nicholas counties that we will highlight below. Throughout the state of WV a new initiative coming out of the WV Community Development Hub called the WV Physical Activity Network, is a forum to share events and ideas on getting active and where you can connect with others interested in physical activity across the state.
What better time than spring to motivate the people around you to get out and try something new that can become a weekly habit and hopefully a year round routine.
So with no further delay, here are the weeks activites:
Sunday, April 12:
Make It Shine in partnership with the Plateau Action Network creek clean up. It’s a great way to get active AND give back to the community. If you would like to do more physical activity through community service, please email here.
Sunset interpretive hike at ACE Resort. 6pm.
Monday, April 13:
Beginner Trail Running with the New River Trail Runners in Fayetteville. 6:30pm
Beginner Road Running with the Beckley Running Supply Store.
Tuesday, April 14:
Trail Running with the Beckley Running Supply Store.
Wednesday, April 15:
Summersville Lake Lighthouse Walk Up Wednesday officially kicks off for Active Southern WV participants. Free admission 9am-5pm for all WV residents (please show your WV drivers license).
Beginner Stand Up Paddle Board Lessons at Summersville Lake. 5:30pm
Thursday, April 16:
Fun Run/Walk with the WVU Fayette County Extention Service.
Active SWV Kids Run, first of the monthly summer series.
Mountain Bike Group Ride with the New River Bicycle Union.
Road Running with the Beckley Running Supply Store 6pm.
Friday, April 17:
Disc Golf at Adventures on the Gorge
Fayetteville Tennis Nights at the high school 5pm.
Saturday, April 18:
Babcock Gristmill Grinder. The race registration has closed but this is a great venue to come out, spectate and cheer on the runners!
