Active SWV would like to introduce November’s Participant of the Month, Nathan Fell. His support and family participation at Mile Monday and of Active SWV in general goes a long way in being an example to the community. We are so proud and excited to have his support and interest in volunteering with Kids Run Clubs.
1. What motivated you to join an Active SWV program?
It became hard not to see all the activities and events popping up in my Facebook feed that friends and relatives were participating in. I started following events and thought it would be another great way to get my kids and family involved and active in our community.
2. What Active SWV programs have you attended?
So far, my girls and I participated in the Active SWV Family Triathlon, and the girls loved it so much they were easily convinced to join the Mile Monday group up until bridge day. Our whole family (wife – Jenny, Avery and Lily -daughters, and Carter – son) got to take part in the runs, and it was great to meet some new people and get outside. We look forward to joining in on some trail work and hopefully some hikes and runs too.
3.What do you find most enjoyable about Active SWV’s programs you have attended?
I love being outside, and I take every opportunity I can get to get my kids outside too. Active has been a great way to do both of those things and get some exercise too. They can think of the fun ideas for me, ha-ha. It’s also great to see other like-minded families there enjoying it too.
4. Any advice from you to help motive others to join an Active SWV program?
Active SWV has been so inclusive and welcoming for our family, that it’s easy to see why so many have felt comfortable joining in the activities. If you give a group a chance, I feel confident you won’t regret it. There are so many ways to get involved too.
5. Tell us a little bit about how your participation led you to want to become a volunteer for Kids Run Clubs.
One of the biggest reasons for me to stay active is to set an example for my kids to want to stay active too. I realized long ago that the motivation to stay active is built from within, but it helps to see that being active is fun. I want to get my kids involved so that they learn to push themselves to meet fitness (and any other) goals that they have set for themselves and not ones that someone else has set. I think the running club can be the beginning of that for many kids. Seeing that exercise/activity is fun and something you can share with others, is a great motivator to continue to stay active. I look forward to the opportunity to help out!
