Employers in southern West Virginia can improve the health of their employees by participating in the Active Southern West Virginia Workplace Wellness program. Many people spend a significant portion of their lives at work, which is why it is imperative workplaces prioritize health initiatives that are simple to understand, are not expensive to implement, and last beyond onetime events.
This program will provide structure and support for a multi-year approach to increase physical activity in the workplace by utilizing a score card to measure results.
Position Description
Assists in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of region-wide workplace wellness initiatives. Sustaining current workplace wellness sites utilizing the CDC Health Scorecard. Developing programs at new locations to create awareness, motivation, and provide tools to employees to help them adapt and maintain a well-rounded healthy lifestyle. Responsible for recruiting new work sites into the program.
Career and Education Requirements
The health and wellness director must have knowledge of health practices and policies, prior leadership experience (preferably, the implementation of nutrition or athletics programs), and management skills. Undergraduate education in fields such as exercise science, medicine, kinesiology (sports medicine), nutrition, and other health studies topics is preferred. Additional training or degrees in business, communication, and marketing strategy may also benefit a candidate aspiring to attain this position.
Duties Include
Develop, coordinate, manage, and maintain total well being programming to reduce health risk, medical costs and encourage healthy lifestyles.
Answer employee questions regarding benefits and wellness program.
Assist in drafting employee communications with respect to new benefits or wellness programming to provide continuing education.
Implement wellness related activities. Examples include: health screenings, lunch and learn seminars, bloodmobile, flu-shots, fitness classes, etc.
Keep abreast of current national wellness and well being initiatives and activities, developing a network of resources and contacts to use at DRC as appropriate. Explore ideas and opportunities to personalize the program to increase employee participation.
Special projects as assigned.
Supporting the other programs within Active Southern WV; Community Captains, Kids Run Clubs, Bike/Walk, and special events. Finding ways to overlap participation and resources throughout the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelors or related experience.
Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations surrounding wellness programs.
Knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations surrounding office and field work.
Knowledge of responsibilities related to Human Resources positions.
Knowledge of PEIA insurance for WV state employees.
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidential documents and information.
Ability to function within all levels of organization and at various locations.

Contracts and Policies
Two-year minimum employment contract

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be based on the applicant’s skills and experience
Mileage reimbursement
10 paid vacation days, paid state holidays, 10 paid sick/well days
