This month Active SWV would like to highlight Samantha Cadevil as participant of the month.
Samantha is an AmeriCorp Vista at Just for Kids Advocacy Center. She recently attended our Qi Gong program at Canyon Rim Visitor Center in Lansing. This program was led by Community Captains Aletha Stolar and Patsieann Misiti. Read about these volunteers here.
Samantha learned about Active SWV programs from a flyer posted at the local library and Community Captain Aletha suggested she should join her for class. It was her first time trying any form of Tai Chi. Samantha said she really enjoyed all of the different positions and poses, experiencing her body in a different way, and the beautiful view from the Canyon Rim Visitor Center made it an even better experience.
Samantha is starting to become more physically active since moving to the area with the goal of improving her health. She enjoys Active SWV programs because you get a chance to try new things you normally may not see as exercise.
Samantha’s advise to anyone just starting out their physical activity journey is to just get out and try something new you may end up loving it. She plans to attend the Qi Gong programs scheduled at Canyon Rim Visitor Center every Saturday in January at 10am.
