Active Places: Venues Available for New Programming

A Look Back

Active SWV would like to thank all our existing Community Captains for the hard work they have done this past year. These volunteers are champions in their communities who lead free activities like hikes, fitness classes, yoga, walking groups, water aerobics and anything else you can think of for anyone who wants to join in on being active. We would also like to thank all our venue partners who have allowed Community Captains to use their facilities this past year, making these programs possible. With the new year just around the corner, we’d like to highlight some additional facilities that are available for Community Captains to host free physical activity programing in 2023.

Venue Opportunities

The Humana office in Charleston is conveniently located on Mountaineer Blvd, and is a great place to hold a weekly or monthly program. Currently, yoga is the only activity being provided here and there is a lot of potential for more activities in the space.

The Gateway Center in Fayette county, the Barn Community Center in Boone county, and the Summersville Armory in Nicholas county are all places that currently do not host any free Community Captain programs. All these places are able and willing to host programming for the community. Physical activity programming can make a big difference in people’s lives, and we urge people who live near these places to consider hosting programs. Active SWV will work with you to find the right time that suits you and the facilities availability. There are opportunities to host Zumba classes, walking groups, dancing classes, aerobics, and so much more. Make a positive impact on your life and your communities’ life by becoming a Community Captain today!

Get Involved

If you are new to Active SWV and would like to learn more about the Community Captain program, our Community Captain Director Elizabeth is always willing to discuss the program. Elizabeth goes through your program set up, promotions, and tracking systems with you, and all this training and support is provided for free. Becoming a trained Community Captain is a great way to increase your leadership skills, hold yourself accountable, and have something fun to do with family and friends.
