Meet Active SWV’s April Participant of the Month, Wendy Howerton
Wendy Howerton is from Fairdale, West Virginia. She is a 43 year old wife and mom of 5. She is a teacher at Sophia Christian Academy and also works part time for the city of Beckley. Wendy enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, and just being outdoors.
Wendy stays active because she always has a sense of peace when she is in nature. “I want to stay active for my physical and mental health,” says Wendy. “I have always tried to stay somewhat active, even when all my kids were little I would take them on weekly hikes or walks when the weather would allow.” Wendy believes that being active is a priority because we only get one chance to keep our bodies healthy, and we can’t waste that opportunity.
Wendy stays motivated because she notices benefits when she is active “not only physically, but mentally as well.”
“Active southern West Virginia has been a great group for me the past couple of years because it has helped me to meet new people with the same goals,” she says. Wendy also loves the variety of activities offered and the group aspect of the free physical activity programs.
