August Community Captain of the Month – Beth Hudspeth

Beth Hudspeth is our July Community Captain of the Month!

Beth has been physically active all her life, and started out on the swim team at the local pool growing up. Her father started getting Beth running at the young age of 12. She also started skiing in the winter, and running was a good way to get her legs strong for ski season. Beth’s father and friends completed three marathons when she was in high school and college, it seems like running “runs” in the family!

Beth became a volunteer with Active SWV to promote wellness in the community. Beth worked as an Emergency Department Registered nurse for years and really enjoy promoting wellness and community within the area.  West Virginia has such a high rate of obesity and Beth hopes to encourage people to be active to stay healthy both physically and mentally.

Being active and busy helps Beth stay motivated and focused on her life and goals.  Having a weekly running program is important for her to stay healthy both physically and mentally. The Fayetteville weekly running group keeps Beth and her group of runners motivated and focused to run on a routine basis.

I believe Active Southern West Virginia programs have a diverse set of activities to get people active and to meet people at no cost to the participants and provide a great way to build a sense of community and friendships” she says.  Keeping busy, active and focused on goals will help keep us happy and healthy both physically and mentally.

But Beth isn’t just a runner.  She participates in Active SWV’s Pickleball programs too! “The friendships with Pickleball and group games and competition has added to my group leadership,” says Beth.  Anyone that needs social connection should come participate in an Active SWV program and meet the people in this organization. They have really motivated Beth and are helping her stay happy and healthy!
