September Community Captains of the Month: Staci and Ricky Stover

September Community Captains of the Month, the Stovers

Staci Stover “Hartshorn”  is from Bolt, WV, and her husband, Ricky, was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, but grew up in Masseyville, WV.  Staci and Ricky volunteer together to lead a variety of free Active SWV programs, and are both trained to lead stand up paddle boarding (SUP). The Stover family has contributed many hours offering free SUP at Lake Stephens this summer.

Being active is something the Stovers strive for daily, although that goal is not always possible with family life and work routines. Staci and Ricky have been motivated to share their love of being active with their community through the free Community Captain training they received from Active SWV. Participating as volunteer Community Captains has provided them the means to incorporate fitness into their schedule.

Staci and Ricky say that once they became involved with Active SWV they began to see ways to make schedule adjustments to prioritize an active lifestyle, and want to encourage others to do the same.  “By opening yourself up to new adventures and opportunities to be active, you’ll make those adjustments to your daily routine to make healthier lifestyle choices. Being engaged in physical activities is not always easy, but having a support group like Active SWV can provide the motivation needed to continue to be active.”

Staci and Ricky became involved with Active SWV through their children and the Kids Run Club program, and then began attending free community programming through the Community Captain program. The Stovers’ love of the organization and all it has to offer has grown, and they wanted to join the Active SWV team as volunteers themselves.

Staci and Ricky stay motivated by making physical activity part of their routines and not giving up. They know firsthand that maintaining an active lifestyle can be challenging for families, but by doing it together and utilizing free programs offered by Active SWV, they can see more activity in their futures.

Staci, Ricky, and their family would like to encourage anyone to join Active SWV free programs. “They have become a part of our lives for ourselves and our children.”
