Bridge Day 5K RUN 2024 Recap: A Day to Remember!
What a day at the 2024 Bridge Day 5K! This year’s event brought together an incredible 533 runners, representing a vast spectrum of ages (from 4 to 79) and backgrounds. Participants traveled from 28 states + D.C. and even Austria to run this iconic course high above the New River Gorge. With 57% female and 43% male runners, it was a wonderfully diverse crowd united by a passion for fitness and the thrill of crossing one of West Virginia’s most famous landmarks.
Top Finishers
The energy was contagious as runners pushed themselves to new heights! Our overall top finisher, Allie McLaughlin from Colorado Springs, CO, clocked in at an incredible 17:08.84! Not only did Allie take first place, but after her race, she went on to complete her 100th base jump off the bridge—a true thrill-seeker in every sense! Scott Roman from Pittsburgh, PA claimed the top male spot at 17:57.80. What an amazing show of strength and determination from both!
Race Impact
Bridge Day 5K isn’t just about personal records and breathtaking views. Proceeds from the event help fund grant support for 36 elementary schools in West Virginia to host free Kids Run Clubs this fall, encouraging the next generation to get active and experience the joys of running.
We couldn’t have pulled it all together without the dedication of our 32 amazing volunteers, including WVU Tech student athletes who guided runners as course marshals. Thank you to every runner, volunteer, and supporter who made this day unforgettable.
Mark your calendars! The next Bridge Day 5K RUN is set for October 18, 2025. We can’t wait to welcome you back for another incredible experience at the New River Gorge!
