February Community Captain of the Month, Crysty Linkenhoker

Crysty Linkenhoker is Active SWV’s Community Captain of the Month for February!

Crysty is a familiar face within Active SWV. For years she has been a volunteer Community Captain almost every month of the year. Crysty leads a variety of activities and is always up for new trainings and learning experiences. She has faithfully led Water Aerobics at Hawks Nest State Park in the summer months, and Chair Fitness in Ansted at Gran Robbie’s during the colder winter months.

In 2024, Crysty completed a training program for Tai Chi for Arthritis, and currently leads this program at Hawks Nest on Thursdays at 6pm.  Additionally, she is leading chair fitness at Gran Robbie’s on Saturday mornings.

Crysty has been physically active throughout her life, through school as well as through military service. After her military career, Crysty noticed years passing by and pounds adding on. For Crysty, this was the wake-up call she needed to start moving more. Now Crysty keeps moving to stay moving.

Crysty began volunteering with Active SWV because she wanted a water aerobics program, but there was nobody leading a water aerobics program in her area. Crysty led water aerobics in college and she loved it, so she stepped up and volunteered to lead a new water aerobics program in her community as a Community Captain.

Crysty stays motivated because “I believe that movement is the only thing that can keep the aging body moving. Like an old car in the garage, if you don’t start it up and take it out every now and then, it will just die and rust away.”  Crysty has no intention of rusting away! She keeps moving to be able to keep moving.

Crysty thinks everyone should join an Active SWV free program for both movement and socialization, and she says that this is “vital to happiness and longevity.” Crysty invites everyone to come and have some fun with Active SWV and your neighbors!
