Spring is just around the corner, and that means more daylight, warmer weather, and more opportunities for outdoor activities!
Check out three active opportunities for kids this spring.
1. Join or Start a Kids Run Club
Active SWV offers a Kids Run Club Mini-Grant to schools and community groups throughout the state of WV, which allows groups to start or continue the Kids Run Club program.
Schools and groups receive volunteer coaches training, a program curriculum manual, support form Active SWV, and $250 dollars to spend on healthy items for the club.
If there is no Kids Run Club in your community, share this resource with a school near you to get one started! They can reach out to [email protected] to learn more.
2. Submit to Active SWV's Kids Creative Contest for FREE Bridge Day 5k RUN Entry
Active SWV is holding a Kids Creative Contest for free entry into the Bridge Day 5k RUN! The contest will have two category options, ‘art’ and ‘essay.’
This contest is an opportunity for kids to show off their art or writing skills and win free entry into the race.
There will be three winners in each category, selected on a rolling basis. Please only submit to one category. Each winner will receive two free entries to the 2025 Bridge Day 5k RUN.

3. Attend a Youth Climbing Session
Join Active SWV Community Captains for youth indoor climbing at WVU Tech’s Bouldering Barn! This program is located on WVU Tech’s Campus in Uptown Beckley, behind the Outdoor Recreation Management building.
Below are the last of the indoor climbing dates before we move outdoors to new climbing locations!!!!

- March 19th
- April 23
Bouldering is a non-roped climbing practice and the bouldering barn is designed for this activity exclusively. Pre-registration is required for this program.
Secure your spot by searching ‘Youth Climbing’ on the calendar. Look for multiple time slots, and register for your preferred session.
