Fayette County Health Department: Promoting Healthier Lifestyles, One Person at a Time

Located in the heart of Fayetteville at 5495 Maple Lane, the Fayette County Health Department is more than a place for health screenings and flu shots—it’s a community hub working to knock down barriers to care and create opportunities for healthier living. With a mission focused on empowering individuals to improve their lives, the department offers resources, support, and activities designed to meet people where they are.

One shining example of this mission in action is the Tai Chi for Arthritis class, held every Tuesday at 10 AM, led by Active SWV Community Captain Teresa.

Gentle Movement. Strong Results.

Tai Chi may be centuries old, but its benefits are timeless—especially for those managing arthritis or seeking a low-impact way to stay active. Teresa’s class at the Fayette County Health Department welcomes participants of all fitness levels for a session focused on balance, flexibility, and mindful movement.

Each session incorporates gentle, flowing movements that not only reduce joint pain and stiffness but also promote mental clarity and relaxation. It’s an environment where attendees feel supported and encouraged, whether they’re brand new to Tai Chi or have practiced before.

What You’ll Gain:

  • Improved balance and coordination

  • Increased flexibility and mobility

  • Stress relief and mental focus

  • A sense of community and support

Come As You Are

There’s no need for prior experience—just wear comfortable clothes, supportive shoes, and bring some water to stay hydrated. Teresa’s welcoming guidance ensures that everyone feels included, safe, and empowered to move at their own pace.

By offering accessible, free physical activity programs like this, the Fayette County Health Department continues to fulfill its promise: to promote healthier lifestyles, one person at a time.
