Meet Joyce Tenney, Active SWV’s May Community Captain of the Month!
Joyce is a member of the Webster county community of Diana, WV. Diana is a very rural community, and Active SWV Community Captain Mary Stone Kinsey has been instrumental in developing the relationship between the Diana Eagles Community Center and Active SWV. Since Joyce and Mary have been trained as Community Captains, the center sees activity in the gym five days per week; three day of REFIT and two of Pickleball.
Joyce stays active because she loves exercise!!! Whether it is walking, doing exercise classes, or REFIT, she loves to ‘get a good sweat’ in. Joyce says, “I find that a good exercise class does wonders for my mental health.” Joyce’s activity levels have fluctuated some over the years. Looking back, she realizes she had no fitness program during the low periods of her life.
Joyce volunteers for Active SWV because she likes to do her part to make a change in her community of Diana, WV. The programs at the community center have brought out a cross section of people whose paths probably would have never crossed until Joyce started Pickleball there.
Joyce stays motivated because exercise and activity have become part of her life. “I miss exercise when I cannot attend class,” she says.
Joyce says the Active SWV family has been very supportive of programs in Diana WV. Active SWV offers many different types of activities to meet the needs of every exercise group.
One example is a new Active SWV Kids Run Club that started in Webster County. Joyce notes that Webster county has a tradition of producing some good cross country runners. The club will enable training at a younger age with the goal of kids developing a love for the sport of running.
