Summersville Running Group – Julie Beam – October Community Captain of the Month

Meet volunteer Community Captain, Julie Beam

Julie is a local to Nicholas County, leading Active SWV’s Summersville Running Group weekly.

She ran Cross Country and Track throughout high school and went on to run Cross Country in college. While in high school, Julie had the opportunity to have an amazing coach, Frank Young.  He inspired so many runners and shared his love and passion for the sport with them. This coach’s influence has made Julie an active person throughout her life.

Julie finds running to be an excellent stress reliever and as a full-time working mom to 2 girls, she needs all the stress relieving she can get!

Julie began volunteering with Active SWV because there was not a community captain in Summersville, and she felt like having a group and a schedule made her more committed to running and staying on a training plan.  The group encourages and challenges one another. Julie also wanted to share her love of running with others.

Julie finds that this advice from a fellow runner in the Summersville running group helps her stay motivated: “the secret is to enjoy the run, soak up your surroundings, challenge your body (and appreciate it can do amazing things), and meet people with your same passion.”

Julie says everyone should join an Active SWV free program because, first off, it is FREE! The programs are very welcoming and encouraging for any age or skill/fitness level.  Julie says, “Fayetteville Pickleball taught my 7-year-old daughter and myself how to play!  They were awesome.” She also would like to encourage everyone to please take the time to attend a program and take a chance of meeting some new and awesome people while getting active!

Keep up with Julie and other Active SWV volunteers and all the free program offerings on the website calendar.
