Community Captains: Abby & Amy

Staying active doesn’t always require a gym membership or years of fitness experience. In Summersville, Community Captains Abby and Amy are creating a welcoming space for movement, connection, and fun through REFIT, a music-driven group fitness class hosted right at the Quality Inn.

About This Event

REFIT is designed to meet people where they are. Classes combine uplifting music with simple, effective movements that can be modified for all fitness levels. Whether you’re just getting started, returning to activity after time away, or looking for a positive and social workout environment, this class is built for you.

The focus isn’t perfection—it’s participation. Abby and Amy lead with encouragement, energy, and an understanding that everyone’s movement journey looks different.

What to Expect

Participants can expect a full-body workout set to motivating music, with movements that build strength, improve cardiovascular health, and support flexibility. Just as important as the physical benefits is the atmosphere: friendly, inclusive, and judgment-free. Many participants say the sense of community is what keeps them coming back each week.

How to Prepare

Wear comfortable workout clothes and supportive shoes, and bring water and a towel. No prior fitness experience is required—just come ready to move, have fun, and try something new.

Getting There & Parking Details

Classes are held in Conference Room B at the Quality Inn in Summersville. The best place to park is the side parking lot facing away from Route 19. Use Entrance E on that side of the building. Once inside, take a left down the hallway, follow it to a short staircase, go upstairs, and the classroom will be right at the top.

Why Group Fitness Matters

Research consistently shows that regular physical activity can reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure, while also improving mental health, energy levels, and sleep quality. Group-based activity adds another layer of benefit—social connection. Exercising with others has been shown to increase motivation, improve consistency, and reduce feelings of isolation, especially in rural communities.

Classes like REFIT help remove common barriers to physical activity by offering:

  • A supportive environment instead of intimidation

  • Modifications so all abilities can participate

  • A consistent weekly schedule that builds healthy routines

REFIT Growth Across Southern West Virginia

The continued growth of REFIT® programming reflects Active Southern West Virginia’s mission to make physical activity accessible, welcoming, and community-centered. As more Community Captains like Abby and Amy step into leadership roles, REFIT classes are reaching new communities and creating safe, positive spaces for people to move together.

Each new class strengthens local connections, supports healthier lifestyles, and shows that impactful wellness programming doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to be inclusive and consistent.

If you’re in the Summersville area and looking for a fun way to be active on Monday evenings, REFIT at the Quality Inn is a great place to start. Come as you are, bring a friend, and experience how movement and community can work together to support better health.

Active Southern West Virginia is grateful to Quality Inn Summersville for serving as a program sponsor and hosting this REFIT class. Partnerships like this make it possible to bring free, accessible physical activity opportunities directly into the community.
