Active Southern West Virginia (Active SWV) has been awarded a Community Grant from the Beckley Area Foundation (BAF) to support the upcoming Beckley Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2026.
The “Back to Beckley Half” project is funding the purchase of new equipment to support race timing and the racer experience for the upcoming race.
The race events will begin and end at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. The half marathon course will bring runners through New River Park and onto the Lewis McManus Rail Trail before heading into uptown Beckley and returning on the rail trail.
Participants in both the half marathon and 5K will receive a race t-shirt, participant medal, and a post-race meal including bean soup, cornbread, and classic West Virginia pepperoni rolls. Top finisher medals for men and women will be awarded for both events. Youth ages 12 and under can register for the 5K event at no charge.

Active SWV holds races and events throughout the year with proceeds supporting the organization’s free community programming, including Community Captain led activities, Kids Run Clubs, and Workplace Wellness initiatives, aimed at improving access to free opportunities for physical activity across the region.
