“I just have to tell everyone how thankful I am for this Active SWV Tai Chi class. I have been practicing Tai Chi with Active SWV now for about a month, and today was the first time in years and years that I was able to spend 30 minutes grocery shopping without using the electric buggy!!! Although I still have pain when I stand, walk, or spend time sitting up straight for an amount of time, I now actually have times when I feel no pain. I had forgotten how it felt to be pain free even for a few moments. Thank you Joe Jett for teaching this class and Billy Thompson for telling me about Joe!” -Janis Dean, Tai Chi participant
Joining an Active SWV program is a great way to stay committed to your 2017 fitness resolutions:
First off, the Active SWV Community Captain physical activity programs are free and designed for all levels of experience. We want to provide an inclusive atmosphere that builds confidence and nurtures people of all levels and capabilities.
Second, social support is one of the most effective ways to be successful at keeping a goal. It also is just more fun and creates a healthy community.
“Physical fitness is a journey for me and has its ups and downs. Being a part of a group like Active Southern West Virginia helps to keep me motivated. You HAVE to surround yourself with people who have common interests and goals.”
-Community Captain Autumn Bess
Third, although we believe that physical activity is, in and of its self, its own reward, we wanted to add to this reward. Our thinking was this; if you, the person, are dedicating your time on a regular basis to an Active SWV program, or even more than one, then that dedication deserves a little something extra. It also offers you a goal to work towards as there are different reward levels that can be achieved. What we’d like to do is to offer you accomplishment awards:
- Participants that attend 5 Active SWV Community Captain physical activity programs will earn an Active SWV t-shirt that you can proudly wear on any and all future activities.
- Participants that attend 10 Community Captain physical activity programs will earn an Active SWV achievement medallion.
