Virtual Kids Run Club comes to a close
Active SWV’s Virtual Kids Run Club and Regional Fun Run event wrapped up Memorial day weekend after six weeks of activity. The Virtual Club had participants from Clear Fork Elementary, Ghent Elementary, Summersville Elementary, Birch River Elementary, Shady Spring Elementary, Fairdale Elementary, Fayetteville pk-8, Panther Creek Elementary, Marsh Fork Elementary, and Gauley River Elementary regularly logging their activity.
Participants recorded their weekly warm up exercises, running workouts, cool down stretches, and additional activities and games they had time for like kickball, hiking, basketball, trampoline time, walking, treadmill runs, bike riding, obstacle courses, and softball. The goal of the program is to develop confidence in physical activity so children and youth can meet the recommended amount of physical activity each week. Active SWV, in partnership with the Move Your Waysm campaign which helps people make small changes that can lead to big health benefits. In the long term, regular physical activity can help prevent chronic health problems like type 2 diabetes. In the short term, even small increases in physical activity can boost mood, reduce stress, and improve sleep.
All Virtual Kids Run Club participants will receive a Kids Run Club medal in addition to a Regional Fun Run participation pin, or a Regional Fun Run top finisher pin if they places in their 5k age group.
Participants can also fill out this feedback survey to receive an Active SWV wristband in the mail along with the other participation prizes.
Active SWV is also excited to share that in addition to the usual in person Kids Run Clubs, we plan to start a new session of the Virtual Kids Run Club program in the upcoming fall season. Stay tuned for more details!
