Active SWV is pleased to recognize Beth Hudspeth as the
December Community Captain of the Month.
Beth joined the Active SWV team 2 years ago when she decided she needed more running buddies and a new social outlet. With dark December underway, Active SWV knew there would be many locals interested in a casual running group to help keep them motivated through the long months ahead. And so Beth became the Active SWV Run Club Community Captain.
The run group Beth thought would only last through winter is now celebrating its 2nd year—one of Active SWV’s longest existing year-round programs! And Beth is greatly to thank for that success. Ask any of the Active SWV Run Group members and it’s easy to see how she’s kept the group motivated and energized season after season.
When asked what keeps her motivated though, Beth says, “I run to clear my mind after a hard day’s work…and so I can eat pizza!”
Beth’s favorite part of becoming a volunteer Community Captain is the leadership skills she’s gained. “I’d always been a follower, not a leader,” Beth says. “Becoming a Community Captain gave me that leadership experience.” She also enjoys motivating others to be more physically active and help them learn to enjoy running.
Beth has lived in Hico, WV, for almost 30 years and is incredibly familiar with the adventure the New River Gorge has to offer. You can catch Beth paddling, mountain biking, or hiking with her dogs any time of year in the NRG.
But you can catch her for a run every Wednesday at 6:15pm in Fayetteville. The Active SWV Run Club will meet in the Pies & Pints back parking lot for the month of December. The group typically runs 3.5 miles, with options to make shorter loops. All paces are welcome, including walkers! Join the Active SWV Running Group Facebook Page here.
