Active SWV’s April Partner of the Month is Elkview, WV.
Situated just 10 miles northeast of the state capital, Elkview is a small community named after the nearby Elk River. Home to just over 1,200 West Virginians, the community will be a cornerstone for Active’s expansion efforts as we seek to provide free, life-changing classes for locals. In fact, the first ASWV class offered in Kanawha County, REFIT – Elkview, began on March 18th!
REFIT is a group fitness experience that focuses on powerful moves and positive music, to get you moving and engaged with like-minded individuals in your community. “Powered by human connections, Refit turns boring, “have-to” workouts into “can’t-miss” community fitness experiences!” The Elkview group meets at Elkview Baptist Church every Thursday starting at 5:30 PM and every Saturday starting at 7:45 AM.
In the summer of 2020, Active SWV expanded our service area to include Boone and Kanawha Counties. Everyone within the organization is excited to share our mission with the residents of Kanawha County and local community leaders. In fact, we are actively searching for members in Kanawha County that would be interested in leading physical activity programs for their friends and family. Training and the cost of certification are covered by Active SWV. Training includes risk management, CPR/First Aid, group dynamics, and activity promotion. Past activities have included hiking & walking groups, tai chi, water aerobics, stand up paddleboarding, and more! The possibilities are endless!
If you or someone you know is interested in free training to offer physical activity programs in Kanawha County, please call 304-254-8488 or email Erin Reid at [email protected].
