Kids Run Club Coaches
Best for: School faculty, parents/guardians, but anyone can apply!
Location: Any elementary or middle school, public or private
About: Active SWV is now offering a fall Kids Run Club mini-grant to get a Kids Run Club started at your school! We provide all the training and materials you need for this free program. You don’t have to be a runner to be a great Kids Run Club Coach. Read more and apply for the mini-grant here.
Kids Hike Club Leaders
Best for: School faculty, staff, parents, high school or college students; but anyone can apply!
Location: Oak Hill Middle School and Fayetteville PK-8
About: Active SWV would like to start a volunteer led hiking club at both locations this fall! Active SWV will provide all the training and resources you need to successfully lead kids through the outdoors. Please contact [email protected] to learn more.
Get Active in the Park Community Captains
Best for: Adults who enjoy the outdoors
Location: City, County, State or National Parks in our 6-county region
About: Get outside and volunteer to lead weekly or monthly hikes, paddle boarding, rock climbing, or biking. You pick the times and locations, and Active SWV will provide all your training and park access.
Walk With Ease Leaders
Best for: Adults interested in beginner-level physical activity
Location: Anywhere in our 6-county region
About: Lead a six week community-based physical activity self-management program. This course is perfect for those new to physical activity, or who want to manage arthritis or other conditions. Read more about the program here.
REFIT Dance Fitness Instructors
Best for: Upbeat, energetic adults
Location: Anywhere in our 6-county region
About: Active SWV covers the cost of your certification; you get to dance, lead classes, and have fun! More information on REFIT here.
Community Captains for All Activities
Best for: Adults wanting to be physically active and share their interest in an activity
Location: Anywhere in our 6-county region
About: Lead any activity program you would like – running walking, hiking, dancing, water aerobics…you name it! Active SWV will train you in group dynamics, help you pick a location for your program, and pay for any certifications needed. Learn more here.
Workplace Wellness Champions
Best for: Adults wanting to improve access to healthy options and improved workplace culture at their place of employment
Location: Any worksite in our 6-county region
About: Workplaces of any kind or size can have a successful wellness program. Active SWV helps you assess your workplace needs and guide you through the steps of planning and implementing wellness initiatives to benefit your entire staff. Learn more here.
CDC Work@Health Certified Leaders
Best for: Adults wanting to improve access to healthy options and improved workplace culture at their place of employment
Location: Any workplace in WV that offers health insurance and employees at least 20 people
About: This evidence-based 6-8 week virtual course provides employers and employees with the resources to plan, implement and sustain a workplace wellness program. Workplaces with at least 1 certified employee also become eligible to apply for Active SWV’s annual Capacity Building Grants. Learn more here.

Advocates for Bicycle/Pedestrian Accessibility
Best for: Community members and local government employees wanting to see infrastructure improvements and policies in their communities
Location: Any community in our 6-county region
About: Active SWV’s Bike/Walk program gives communities the technical support and resources they need to make their hometowns bicycle and pedestrian friendly. Volunteers can lead specific programs, work on specific projects, or help for Bicycle Pedestrian Action Committees for long-term advocacy. Bridge Day 5K RUN
Course Marshalls
Best for: Teens and adults looking for a one-time commitment volunteer opportunity
Location: Fayetteville and New River Gorge Bridge
About: Active SWV needs volunteers throughout the course to assist with the race on October 16th. Cheer on racers while keeping them on track.
