Participant of the month, Sara Spolrich
“Being active will change your life. I have no doubt about that.”
Active SWV’s January Participant of the Month is a member of the Fayetteville Running Group, which currently meets Wednesdays at 6:15 outside of Pies and Pints. Sara describes herself as a transplant to Fayetteville, WV via Golden, CO. When she is not running, she is a Montessori teacher, a run coach, and backpacking guide.
Sara describes herself as always being active, but finding a renewed passion when she began hiking the Appalachian Trail in sections. This summer, she plans to finish her final 100 miles! She loves being active, connecting with the outdoors, and says she “finds confidence in herself.” Her goals include moving over “beautiful and challenging landscapes with (her) own human power.“
She joined Active SWV’s Fayetteville run group in order to meet others who enjoy the same things. Meeting other runners, hikers, and outdoors people in general is nice, because you know you already have at least one thing in common with them, making joining easier.
Sara stays motivated by setting goals. Goal setting reminds her to keep moving, even when times are tough. “Being active is a way to invest in myself,” says Sara. When she is active, she finds clarity and joy in getting closer to her goals.
Sara thinks anyone can join an Active SWV activity because it offers an opportunity to meet others with the same interests. It also opens doors to things you may not even realize you want to do. “Being active will change your life. I have not doubts about that,” says Sara. Joining a group adds accountability and can kickstart a lifelong habit.
