Kay Bess is February’s Participant of the Month
Kay is a Fayetteville native, married mother of two, with five grandchildren. She is retired from marketing for Visit SWV.
Kay says that she is active because she saw family members struggling with health issues from being overweight. She learned at a young age that heart disease and cancers could be related to lifestyle, and she determined to never live like that. She began taking exercise classes at age 21, when she had her son. “Back then it was Jane Fonda, step aerobics, every time a class would close, I found another different one.” Through the years she has tried kickboxing, piloxing, barre, and many others.
Kay stays so active that she keeps her workouts in a planner book, and if it is on her planner, she knows she will follow through! Being active is a huge priority for Kay because of her health, she says her exercise and healthy eating plan have helped her control her cholesterol.
Kay became a part of Active SWV so that she would not just sit around after retirement. She wanted to be involved in her community, and she loves motivating others.
Kay says people should join an Active SWV free program because you meet new friends, have fun, and create healthy habits. Her favorite class is High Fitness, stating, “I’m one of the oldest chicks in the class, but I’m also the one who whines the most if class gets cancelled for any reason.”
