Active SWV September Community Captain of the Month, Angie Corwin
Angie is a Pilates instructor and business owner based in Oak Hill. Active SWV is proud to partner with her to bring the gift of Pilates to our local communities for free through her work as a volunteer Community Captain. The level of programming offered by Angie and her other instructors to our participants is amazing.
Angie described for us why she is active, and it stems from her parents and family always putting an emphasis on a healthy lifestyle and physical movement. Holidays and family celebrations even centered around movement and activity for her family. Today, Angie continues to stay active “As a way of staying grounded, helping me sleep, and keeping my mental health in top shape.“
Angie became a part of Active SWV because she believes in our mission. She loves the variety of free programming brought to the community through volunteer involvement. “Active SWV removes barriers, and makes exploring the area, movement, and different activities possible.” As a business owner, Angie also feels that volunteering enables her to give back to the community and share her skills with more people.
Angie stays motivated and active because it helps her body and mind. After two days of decreased activity she can tell a difference in her mood and habits. A Pilates workout, a hike, going stand up paddle boarding, or a run with friends makes her feel immensely better.
Angie would love to encourage everyone to become involved in Active SWV’s free programming options because “you have nothing to lose and so much to gain.” She also encourages everyone to come with a friend! The great part about Active SWV programs is that they are able to be enjoyed with friends, and if you can’t bring a friend, you will make one there!
