Why Start a Kids Run Club?

Active SWV created the Kids Run Club mini-grant as a way to make the free Kids Run Club program more accessible to schools all over West Virginia. It’s our mission to reach as many children as possible with this initiative to get kids everywhere more healthy and active every day.

“The best part of the club was providing students with new opportunities to experience things that they have not yet had”, says Kids Run Club volunteer Coach John Fox with Gilmer Elementary. “Many students who took part in the run club have participated in other athletic experiences but enjoyed having the opportunity to be part of a team where you can compete as an individual. On the other hand, there were some students who were participating in their first team club. This gave many students an opportunity to say, ‘Hey, this is for me.'”  With the Kids Run Club program, volunteer coaches create a welcoming environment where kids can be active, have fun, build their confidence, and learn healthy habits for life.

As the fall Kids Run Clubs get started, kids all across West Virginia will have an opportunity to participate in this free and fun initiative.
