Every spring and fall, Active SWV awards schools throughout West Virginia the Kids Run Club mini-grant to start or continue the free Kids Run Club program at their school.
We are excited to announce our Spring 2023 Mini-grant recipients!
Spring Kids Run Club Mini-grant Recipients
Our awardees this season are:
Princeton Primary School, Pineville Middle School, Eastwood Elementary, Hinton Area Elementary, Cox Landing Elementary, Village of Barboursville Elementary, Mabscott Elementary, Stanaford Elementary, Rupert Elementary, Kanawha City Elementary, Union Educational Complex, Bluefield Intermediate, George Washington Elementary, Pocahontas County Community Group, Kenna Elementary, Straley Elementary, and Hilltop Elementary.
In an effort to both sustain and grow the Kids Run Club program, the mini-grant is open to any school in WV regardless of whether they have received funds and run the program before. As a result, we are excited to welcome back old schools while also ushering in new participating locations who we hope will fall in love with the program and continue beyond this spring season!
Active SWV will run another cycle of the mini-grant starting in mid-August to support Fall Kids Run Clubs.
Learn About Other Youth Programming Initiatives from Active SWV
The Kids Run Club program started in 2015 and has been going strong ever since. With the addition of our mini-grant awardees from this spring, over 55 schools in WV have had a Kids Run Club at their location at some point in the last eight years.
However, we’ve also been working on some other youth programming initiatives designed to get kids active in different ways! Active SWV is excited about our Kids Hike Club program, and our newer Kids Disc Golf program. The Hike Club focuses on teaching kids about Leave No Trace and Trail Etiquette, and gets them outside to see different trails they can go back and enjoy again with family and friends. The Disc Golf Club teaches kids the basics of the fun and growing sport of Disc Golf, gives them a disc to take home, and encourages then to go try their skills out at other local courses.
