Jessica Wright of Clendenin is our April Community Captain of the Month!
Jessica is a lifelong West Virginian. While she grew up in Spencer, WV, Jessica now lives in nearby Clendenin.
Jessica is active because she feels that by modeling healthy behavior in her community, she can inspire others to be active and increase the health and well-being of the residents of our state. Jessica isn’t new to the game – she has been an active person since elementary school.
Most recently, Jessica helped form a walking group in her area that meets weekly on the Elk River Trail in Clendenin. Jessica decided to become an Active SWV volunteer Community Captain for promotional and funding purposes for her group and their trail.
Jessica says that being active is important to her because: “Physical activity builds your social and mental health as well as your physical health. If you’ve been a regular for so long, it’s part of your everyday life.”
She says that everyone should find an Active SWV free program to join because “It’s fun and all of the activities are exciting and you learn a lot! You just have to get yourself there and participate!”
In addition to regular walks, Jessica and the Elk River Trail walking group will be doing an interpretive hike on April 22 to celebrate Trail Day and Earth Day. The group will meet at 11am on the Queen Shoals trailhead and travel towards Clendenin. Join in – you might learn some new things too!
