12 Days of Fitness in December

This December, Active SWV is celebrating the season with 12 Days of Fitness! Follow along as we post a new fitness challenge for 12 days in December to stay active in the colder winter weather.

1. Winter Wonderland Fun Run/Walk

Bring out the family and enjoy some holiday cheer at Fayette County Park on Dec. 4 from 5:00-6:00 pm. There is a $10 donation per person, ages 6 and under are free. Event page found HERE.

2. Winter Hiking

In truth, I think you could hike for all 12 days of fitness.  The fresh air, absence of bugs and snakes, and empty trails always brings me back to a peaceful place even during the crazy holiday months. Some trail ideas found HERE.

3. Disc Golf:

Our Community Captain Nathan is still programming through December. Check out this amazing sport one evening for an hour. Programs in December are indoors at Dry Hill Community Center at 5:00 pm on Dec. 7 and Dec. 15.

4. Don’t forget the kids!!!

BRAND new!!!  Kids Aerial Yoga!  Offered at KFit in Beaver, FREE on Monday Dec. 6 and Monday Dec. 20 at 4:30~ Register Here
All of our programming is family/kid friendly!
Also, get the kids moving every day at home: https://activeswv.org/2021/09/active-resources-for-kids-families/

8.  Walking Group in McDowell County:

We still have a weekly walking group going in Northfork, WV, every Saturday at 9 am.

10. Don’t forget to take some time to slow down and me mindful.

This movement and mindfulness video from Pilates Instructor Angie Corwin at Activated Body is great for kids and adults to follow along.

11.  Take a Refit Class

If you have never gone to one of our Refit classes (we have them in Beckley and Charleston) you really should give it a go!  They are offered virtually every day of the week between those two counties, are free, and truly anyone and everyone will leave feeling refreshed, welcomed, and moved.

12. Try one (or all five!) of these fitness cards designed by Community Captain Kate Miller here

For those cold days, when you are stuck inside, these cards will make staying active easier.  Get Active without leaving the house.
