Active Places: Midland Trail Community Center

A Community Connected

Nestled in the heart of Ansted, the Midland Trail Community Center (MTCC) has become a hub of activity and connection for residents of all ages. This former school turned into a community center offers a wide range of programs and amenities designed to promote active and healthy lifestyles. The two free Community Captain programs being led at MTCC are Pickleball led by Community Captains Kate and Jenny, and the Walking Group led by Community Captains Eric and Samantha. Pickleball is on Fridays from 9-11 am and the Walking Group meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 9-11 am. These programs have not only brought people together but have also had a transformative impact on the health and well-being of the community.

The Health Benefits of Pickleball and Walking

Pickleball offers numerous health benefits that have contributed to its widespread appeal. The sport provides a low-impact workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, enhances hand-eye coordination, and promotes joint flexibility. Regular participation in Pickleball has been linked to increased muscle strength, improved balance, and weight management. By offering this program free of charge, our Community Captain volunteers have made it accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial means.

In addition to Pickleball, the Walking Group has become a favorite activity for many residents of the area. Walking is a simple yet highly effective form of exercise that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and fitness levels. It is a low-impact activity that boosts cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and supports mental well-being. The Walking Group not only encourages physical activity but also fosters social connections and a sense of community among participants.

The Importance of Free Programming

By removing financial barriers and offering a program that is free, individuals and families from all walks of life are more likely to enjoy the benefits of consistent physical activity. Free programming ensures that no one is left behind due to a prohibitive cost, and that health and wellness are truly within reach for more people in the community. Midland Trail Community Center’s commitment to hosting Active SWV programming shows the center’s dedication to providing these opportunities for free and exemplifies their commitment to the well-being of the community.

A Call to Thrive Together

The impact of the Midland Trail Community Center and its programs on the Ansted community cannot be overstated. By promoting physical activity, fostering social connections, and offering free programming, the center has become a catalyst for healthier lives and a thriving community. However, there is always room for more people to join in and participate. If you haven’t yet experienced the joy of Pickleball or the benefits of a Walking Group, now is the time to take that leap.
