Expert Hiking Advice From a Park Ranger in the New River Gorge National River. The New River Gorge region has many hiking trails from beginner to advanced.

Active Southern West Virginia partners with government, higher education, business, and regional parks to improve the health and economy of southern West Virginia.

Regional trail reporting, trail maintenance, and adopt a trail programs are available through a partnership between Active Southern West Virginia (Active SWV) and the New River Gorge Trail Alliance (NRGTA).

Active SWV would like to introduce Participant of the Month for April, Claude Hawkins.

Active SWV is excited to announce the Community Captain of the Month for April is Charity Wysong. Charity leads Active SWV’s Walk in the Park program, a walking/hiking group at Fayette County Park every Wednesday at 10am.

Now Accepting Applications for 2018 Volunteers! Active SWV Community Captains are champions of their communities who want to lead others to healthier and active lifestyles.

This full time position will support the successful Active Southern West Virginia Kids Run Club Program.

The New River Gorge Region is invited to the eNeRGy Community Walk/Run powered by Active SWV on Saturday, May 12th at Woodrow Wilson High School.

This program provides structure and support for a multi-year approach to increase physical activity in the workplace by utilizing a score card to measure results.
