This is a magical time of year when we can slow down and be grateful for efforts toward health and happiness.

Saturday morning 500 runners and walkers showed up to the Jingle Bell 5K Walk/Run in 23 degree weather to race on the University of Charleston campus in Charleston, West Virginia to benefit the Arthritis Foundation.

Active Southern West Virginia takes great pride in its Community Captains. We strongly believe that without them our mission would be impossible.

The community of Mount Hope is located in Fayette County, West Virginia between the cities of Beckley and Oak Hill.

Our Fayetteville Community Captain Hilary Nicolau hosted the weekly Mile Monday in Fayetteville May through October with great results in getting beginner walkers and runners introduced to weekly group activities.

The goal of the Active Southern West Virginia Training Teams is to provide a fun, safe, social and effective training schedule to prepare runners for area events.

Active Southern West Virginia has enrolled in the Kroger Community Rewards program which means every time our supporters, partners, participants, etc.

We were not blessed with beautiful fall weather. I think we had Mr. Winter testing his entrance, but that didn’t stop a determined group of runners.

We are excited to announce active youth and families fundraising for more area kids runs.

A huge success was made possible by the many sponsors and generous volunteers. We were able to raise $1400 for the Fayetteville Outdoor Adventure 4-H Club.

This month we are highlighting the accomplishments of our Oak Hill Community Captain, Joseph Gutshall, to both show appreciation for his service and to showcase a little bit of his story.

This September 20th will be the 5th annual Adventures on the Gorge New River Gorge SUP Race benefiting the Fayetteville Outdoor Adventure 4-H Club which offers after school skills trips; mountain biking, rock climbing, paddle boarding, whitewater rafting, zip line trips and ropes courses.
