The City of Beckley, in its efforts to develop pedestrian and bicycle friendly infrastructure and safe streets, has taken an important step to welcome WVU Tech students to town.

The first ever Active Southern West Virginia (Active SWV) Kids Run Club at the Mount Hope Energy Express site came to a successful finish last week.

For 10 days in late July, approximately 40,000 scouts convened in the New River Gorge for the 2017 National Jamboree. This was the second time the event has been hosted at the Bechtel Summit Reserve, which is situated between Mount Hope and Glen Jean, West Virginia, and the second time attendees have worked on service projects throughout the region as part of their camp experience.
As Active SWV Bike/Walk’s Coordinator, I was recently invited to join some fellow West Virginians to visit and tour Damascus, Virginia, which has embraced its identity as a “Trail Town”.

The Mount Hope Elementary Run Club takes place every morning before the start of school.
The Mabscott Elementary Run Club, powered by Active SWV, got an early start to their first ever season, allowing for 9 weeks of run club during Spring 2017. The club was led by teachers, Jami Bond and Cali Evans, along with Mabscott Elementary parent, Nikki White.
